Honest split

Workspace, stack, instrument.

GeoLibre is not ArcGIS. It is not map3d.jbf.com. Jeff uses all three for different jobs. Do not oversell any of them.

GeoLibre

The workspace

Open-source GIS that runs in a tab. Load data, style it, run spatial SQL, save a .geolibre.json project. MIT license. Official home is geolibre.app.

Right tool when the question is still open: explore, query, try a format, keep the file on your machine.

ArcGIS

The enterprise stack

Pro for deep desktop work. Online for hosted layers, org sharing, Field Maps, Dashboards. Versioned geodatabases and specialized toolboxes with organizational support.

Right tool when the org already lives there, or the job is enterprise data management. GeoLibre reads some Esri services and can import a Pro project. That is interchange, not replacement.

map3d.jbf.com

The instrument

Custom 3D analytical products. Height is magnitude. Color is rate. Governed public data, a specific question, a finished lens you can hand someone.

GeoLibre is where you author and learn. map3d is a built instrument. Open the lab.

Where GeoLibre is not the strongest option

Browser memory is real. Multi-gigabyte local jobs still belong on a desktop GIS. ArcGIS Pro’s specialized toolboxes and QGIS’s plugin depth cover workflows GeoLibre does not. It is stable and young. File Geodatabase is desktop-only. See the official comparison — written by the GeoLibre project, not this lab.

Spatial Radar (radar.jbf.com) is Jeff’s private ArcGIS change-intelligence lab. A different job. Not this site.
